What is Adobe replacing Muse with?
Adobe has just announced that they are discontinuing their web design software, Muse, in favor of their newer (but still not quite ready) software, Experience Design (XD). Why the big change? And what does this mean for you? Let’s take a look at these two programs and see what the future of Adobe’s online education looks like.
Is Adobe Muse still available?
As of March 19, 2017, Adobe has announced that it will be discontinuing its design software for professional Web and mobile app designers. The latest version of Adobe Muse will no longer be available to download from Creative Cloud on feburary1,2022 Instead, new users are encouraged to learn about Experience Design CC and how it can streamline their workflow by bringing together all aspects of a web or mobile design project in one single application.
Why Adobe Muse discontinued?
Adobe announced yesterday that it will be discontinuing its Muse product. The company said that the product has reached the end of life and will no longer be supported, although existing websites using Muse can continue to publish with it until February 28, 2022. This means that anyone who wants to keep working on a website created in Muse must migrate their files to another tool. Now, if you’re an illustrator or designer and have already used other Adobe products (such as Photoshop), switching platforms isn’t too difficult.
How much is Adobe Muse?
To try to maintain a low cost of entry, it costs $19.99 per month for a standard plan and $29.99 per month for an extended plan. Compare that to other products like Dreamweaver, which cost $50 or more every year if you subscribe on an annual basis. So what does it really cost? Well, that depends on your goals as a designer and how much time you’re willing to put into learning a new program before your money runs out.

Adobe has just announced that it will no longer be developing any new features for Adobe Muse. It seems that they are planning to replace it entirely with Spark Page and Web, which has been marketed as a simple drag-and-drop web design program. However, its features don’t seem to be comparable to those in other web design programs such as Dreamweaver or even Windows Journal.

Muse allows you to create sites without any code or design experience. This can be a useful way to get a site up quickly and easily, but it can’t offer any of those benefits that coding provides—particularly that it’s not as easy to make changes in later. I strongly recommend against using free options for your business. However, if you do have time constraints, there are services like Wix, which will allow you to build and host your website quickly.

are they going to replace them altogether in 2014, or will they be able to support existing sites created on muse through 2014? I don't want to convert my current muse site over if it's just a stop-gap and will have to redo it next year. It is not that complicated but if I need something simple maybe it's worth doing now and better than having to rewrite it at some point anyway.

Adobe acquired a new software tool in January, Muse XD, a design tool focused on app prototypes. The move indicates that Photoshop could eventually be replaced by app prototyping tools like XD and InVision Studio. As such, it may be too soon to speculate what Adobe will do next; we’ll have to wait and see if there are any updates in their future products.
Adobe Muse vs dreamweaver,
With all these developments, it’s clear that Muse has a lot of potential. But does it have enough promise to replace Dreamweaver completely? I don’t think so. I know there are people out there who enjoy using WordPress templates and not much else when it comes to design, but if you need a little more control than that, I recommend sticking with an all-in-one solution like Dreamweaver or Photoshop.
